New faculty profile: Heidi C. Bordogna

Heidi Bordogna, M.F.A.From working on network television shows to producing and directing feature-length films, Heidi C. Bordogna has settled into her new role as an assistant professor at the Department of Communication at UL Lafayette. She comes to UL Lafayette with a host of experience not only in television production and film but also in university teaching.

Bordogna began her career as the unit assistant of the feature film Age Isn’t Everything. Shortly thereafter, she served as the unit manager/associate producer on the film A Stranger’s Kiss. Bordogna’s next assignments took her to network shows such as America’s Most Wanted and the PBS series American Masters. She also co-produced and shot the television pilot The Woodby News with producer/director Todd Radnitz, and executive produced the short film Wop Bam Boom.

After graduating from New York University with a B.F.A. in film/television production, Bordogna became an instructor in the film/television department, working alongside renowned faculty and visiting professionals such as Spike Lee and Vilmos Zsigmond.

Heidi then joined Sea Lion Productions, Inc., where she worked as production manager/associate producer on The Walker’s Cay Chronicles for ESPN, Shark Island for Animal Planet, Jim Fowler’s Life in the Wild for syndication as well as various television commercials.

After two years back in the industry, Bordogna felt the urge to return to teaching, starting off as an adjunct professor at New York University. Soon, she found herself with numerous other teaching opportunities at Marymount Manhattan College, Ramapo College of New Jersey, LaGuardia Community College and Bergen Community College. Simultaneously, Bordogna, for five years, also worked as a video engineer/camera operator with the hugely successful off-Broadway show, Blue Man Group, and directed and shot two more television pilots, Tales from Furban Forest and Sid and Buddy: Be a Rock Star.

Bordogna’s film credentials span writing as well as directing. She co-wrote the feature-length film, Court Jesters, and a short documentary of hers on the subject of living with Tourette's syndrome recently aired on ABC NewsNow. For the past three years, Bordogna has also completed a great deal of freelance television development work with Transport Entertainment, a company represented by the William Morris Agency, and partnered on projects with Reveille Productions (The Office, Ugly Betty) and Ryan Seacrest Productions.

In total, Bordogna has produced, directed, written and shot more than 25 short films and videos. She also has written numerous feature-length screenplays and television spec scripts. In 2004, Bordogna completed her M.F.A. in screenwriting at Goddard College. She recently completed two feature film treatments and is currently working on two new projects as well.
