Alumni Profile: Chunmei Wang

One universal secret every good teacher knows is they often learn new lessons from their students.  This appears to be true for some of the graduate students in the Master of Science in Communication program at UL Lafayette.

Chunmei Wang is a native of China, and first came to Louisiana because her husband was attending graduate school here.

“I also heard that UL’s M.S. in Communication program has a very good reputation and its public relations concentration ranks high,” said Wang.

Wang said that one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences she had at UL Lafayette involved her work as a graduate teaching assistant.

“For me, it was not just teaching, but a process of learning.  Coming from a completely different culture and speaking English as a second language, I improved my English language proficiencies and communication skills (as well as cultural awareness) by working with Louisiana's undergraduates.”

Now, Chunmei is working on another degree — a master's in accounting at California State University at Los Angeles.

Reflecting on her experience at UL Lafayette, Chunmei recalls it as “a small but extraordinarily diverse community where I had a great time meeting people of different cultures and backgrounds. They really helped me broaden my perspectives. The professors there were very helpful and instructive.”
